First Sigma 6 fanfic I wrote, written for Fanfiction 100 Live Journal
Challenge; possibly first GI Joe: Sigma 6 fanfic ever written — or
at least, ever posted to the internet.

Children:

“They could have at
least dropped us closer to town,” Kamakura grumbled.

“They didn’t exactly
have time for that now, Kamakura,” Jinx said, shifting her hand
as she tried to steady herself under Kamakura’s weight as they moved
down the road toward the rendevous point she’d arranged with the
medevac. Her fellow apprentice grunted in pain as her hand brushed
his injured ribs. “Sorry!”

“I’m
fine,” Kamakura said, though she knew he wasn’t. His mask
covered most of his face, but she could see enough skin around his
eyes to see that he was pale and clammy. “We should be with
them; sensai needs us! It’s not fair!”

“This
isn’t about fair,” Jinx said. “It’s about what’s best for
the mission and you know that Kamakura. You can’t risk everyone
else’s safety just because you want to prove yourself to sensai.”
Hearing him inhale sharply, Jinx continued on before he could
interrupt her. “And neither can I.”

That caught him off guard.
“…I just feel useless,” Kamakura said, his voice softer
now. “I know they think of us as kids and it makes me crazy.
I’m the same age as Hi-Tech for crying out loud!”

“I know,” Jinx
said, patting his shoulder gently. “But, part of being a grown
up is being able to suck it up and do something you don’t want to do,
right?”

He sighed. “You’re
right,” he said, reluctantly. Then, in a sly, teasing tone.
“…ancient oriental wisdom strikes again.”

“Keep
that up and I leave you for the coyotes, gaijin.
I’m only six months older than you are!”

“Still, when you were
starting kindergarten, I was still in preschool…ow! Hey that
hurts!”

“Suck it up, baby!”

“I am so telling
sensai when he gets back!”

“Tattletale!”

“Bully!”

They were still laughing
when the medevac arrived.
